I AM
Dr. Ziegenbein,
A Rheumatologist by training, with special interest in all things fibromyalgia. I started practicing Rheumatology in August 2007 in Northern Wisconsin, after completing both general rheumatology and lupus fellowships in Boston, MA and Baltimore, MD, respectively.
I was born and raised in Slovakia (the east half of the former Czechoslovakia). I am an US citizen since 2019 but I will never cease to be a Slovak. Slovakia is in my blood, in my “bones” and I have an accent, too ☺
I have always been drawn to and fascinated by Fibromyalgia. Caring for women with this affliction has not been always rewarding, however. Sometimes the pain would stick around no matter (seemingly) what we did. Other times, the pain got better, but the reprieve would not last.
After years of searching, I am confident I figured out how to help women with fibromyalgia more consistently. This realization came after thinking about my patients and their pain all the time, immersing myself in multiple books about healing and pain, and signing up for the Whole Health Medicine institute courses about healing (founded and led by Dr. Lissa Rankin). I want to share my knowledge with and guide as many women with fibromyalgia as humanely possible in my lifetime. The end goal is for these women to lead more enjoyable lives, filled with less (or no) pain and more joy.
